Chris received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1998 and his JD from the University of Houston Law Center in 2005. Chris began his legal career as a patent attorney, prior to paving his path in the energy sector.

He started his oil and gas journey as a field landman, assembling runsheets, performing courthouse research, leasing and due diligence in various counties throughout Texas.  After nearly two years of field land experience, Chris began working as a title attorney where he examined title documents, wrote hundreds of title opinions, assisted in due diligence projects, and managed teams of attorneys.

In 2013 Chris joined a publicly-traded exploration and production company as an in-house landman and attorney where he managed large-scale leasing projects, acquisitions, and operated and non-operated joint-venture drilling programs.

Prior to starting the Shannon Law Firm, Chirs worked as an
attorney and a shareholder of a specialized oil and gas firm where he generated significant growth, sourced acquisition projects from major oil and gas companies, examined title, and drafted title opinions for tracts of land in various counties throughout Texas, New Mexico
and North Dakota. Additionally, he advised and drafted legal memorandums on complex issues including overriding royalty washouts, working interest washouts, assignment/deed interpretation, acknowledgements, and powers of trustees.

Chris is Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law, is a Certified Professional Landman, and is a member of several Professional Associations, including; the Oil, Gas and Mineral Law Section, Houston Bar Association; the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen; and the American Association of Professional Landmen.  He is licensed to practice law in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania.

In addition to providing strategic and tailored legal counsel to his diverse client base, Chris is passionate about education and fostering the growth and advancement of the industry. He is a regular volunteer for the Houston Association of Professional Landman’s (HAPL) mentor/mentee program, where he leads and advises up-and-coming professionals as they navigate the complexities of building a career in the energy sector.  Throughout his career, Chris has given several presentations to mineral owners, engineers, landmen, attorneys, accountants, analysts, and executives in effort to further the education of his clients and colleagues – both experienced and those new to the oil and gas arena.  Additionally, he has served as a HAPL board member, and is in his fifth year as Chariman of the HAPL annual Saltwater Fishing Tournament. Through these efforts, Chris takes pride in sharing his expertise with clients and other industry stakeholders and serving as a steward for his colleagues and professional organizations.
